Best Deal Out There! July 29, 2010 Julie M. Rajotte (North Myrtle Beach, SC, US) These chairs came in on the date expected. Shipping was great, packaging was intact and there was no assembly. Perfect compliment to the other items in this line that were purchased. Strong and durable but not so heavy you can hardly move.
Good quality for the price...with a caveat July 5, 2010 Martha Molchan (Berkley, MI United States) I purchased 2 sets (4 chairs total) and was surprised by the decent quality. They're good-looking, sturdy, but not too heavy to move around. The cushions are good quality, weather-resistant fabric, and are very thick -- you sit a little bit higher on these chairs than others, at least until the cushions start to squash down. I'm 5' 7", so the height is OK for me, but shorter folks might find them too high. (Or, you could purchase thinner cushions separately; the slats on the chairs are such that you really need to have some kind of cushions.)
I also got the matching 48" table and am happy with it.
That said, this purchase might be hit or miss, since I noticed that others have mentioned welding issues (I haven't found any -- yet). The only problem I've had is that one of the chairs was missing one of the glide/leveler thingies that screw into the bottom of the chair, so until I find a replacement, I really can't use that chair. Calls to service/selling company, [...], have gone unanswered. I think I'll be able to find something, somewhere, online that will do the job, but I'm irritated that yotrio hasn't responded.
Nice chairs June 25, 2010 Mrs. Susan K. Mcginnis (Florida) These chairs are nice but I don't think the cushions on them will last long so I bring them in everynight. Also the welding on the backs don't seem to be good enough to hold as when we got them some of the welding had broken. We could not replace the chairs that were damaged because they were out so our only option was to keep them so we had a matching set or send them back for something different. we opted to keep them. Make sure you check all this out before you get rid of the boxes.
Looks Are Deceiving May 27, 2010 Grandma K Although these two chairs appear to be heavy and cumbersome, they are actually lightweight and still well balanced and comfortable. The cushions that came with the chairs are well made and very supportive. Once I find another home for our present outdoor dining set, I plan to invest in more St. Thomas pieces. A great value and a pleasing design.
Very solid, worth the price June 26, 2009 Jewelry Lover (Denver, CO) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
four stars
After having a really ugly episode with Amazon last year where I ended up with a Bainbridge table and only two matching chairs, I decided to take a chance and order two of these chairs to round out the set.
Actually was a good choice. No it doesn't have the bronze undertones of the Bainbridge, more of a silver under the black oxydized surface... The cusions are a nice neutral tan (but I actually prefer the green of the Bainbridge set). Overall, the chairs are of equivalent quality and similar enough for me to start using the set on my patio.
I gave this set only four stars (not five) because the seat under the cusion has vertical metal slats that go from the back metal crossbar to the front metal crossbar. The Bainbridge had a thicker, nice woven pattern which made it suitable for sitting on with or without a cusion. With this pattern, you better have a cusion on the seat, or it's pretty uncomfortable.
Nice set, and at [...]chairs, the price is better than Costco. It's sturdy, weathers well, and doesn't get blown around by strong winds. If you're still suffering with nylon, thin mesh metal, or plastic chairs, you won't be sorry you traded up!
